The Basics

What was the Purpose of this Site?
The purpose of this site was to

  • help local gamers find each other (here and on the communities we use like MeetUp and BoardGameGeek),
  • provide local gamers with links to resources they can use, and
  • give them a forum to post local news, events, trades, and items of interest, including Kickstarters of interest as group pledges go a long way to not only getting a Kickstarter off of the ground but getting each group member more value for their dollar.

This site has been replaced by the 902 Facebook Group.

Who Runs this Site?
This site is maintained and hosted by local gamers, like you, who have some technical competence and who volunteer their time and efforts to do their best to keep this site going, primarily on evenings and weekends when time can be spared. (As such, please do not expect an immediate response to any inquiry.)

The site seems a bit basic, slow at times, and occasionally I can't reach it. Why?

This site is currently hosted on a low-end linux-based web server and accessed via dynamic DNS. In addition, to not only insure that the site works in its current environment but is portable to other minimal environments in the future, the administrators chose a PHP CMS that uses flat-files (as not all server environments will support a specific database and adding a database to the mix increases the technological skills required by current and future administrators). What does all this mean?

  1. The site will occasionally be unreachable for a (very) short time when our internet service provider reassigns our IP and it has to propagate through DNS servers.
  2. Memory is limited, so if we get a traffic spike, the site will slow down a bit.
  3. If a page has not been loaded in a while, and is not cached in server memory, there will be a brief delay (of a few seconds) while the disk is spun up and accessed and the relevant flat-files are loaded and indexed.

The Community and Local News

How do I get listed on the Community Page?

This site is no longer actively maintained, so, you don't.

What is the difference between News and the Message Board?
From time to time, the site administrators would announce events, new releases, kick-starters, or other items of potential interest to the community at large on our news blog when we feel that a number of people maybe interested or we don't want an announcement to get lost in the forums.

I have an item I think should be added to the News Section. How do I do that?

Again, the site is no longer actively maintained, so you don't.

The Resource Listings

You missed a great resource. Could you please add it?
While we wanted our resource list to be as complete and useful as possible, and would add them as we found out about them, this site is no longer actively maintained.  We will update the online stores once or twice a year, but that's it, so please do not inform us of other resources.

The Message Board

How Do I Get an Account on the Message Board?

This site is no longer actively moderated, so you don't.

Can I post? Can I add new topics?

If you still have an active account, yes,  Otherwise, no.

Do you collect any information on me? If so, will you give/sell it to anyone?
No, we don't collect any information on you. However, this is an open public forum, so if there is any information about you, your opinions, or your participation in other online forums that you don't want to make public, don't make it public as the search engines will find it, index it, and share it. And since we don't collect any information on you (other than the information you choose to share about yourself in this forum and/or on our community members page), we don't have any of your information to give away or sell. But rest assured that even if we did, we wouldn't. We respect your privacy and urge you to keep your private matters (and parts) private.

Everything Else

You didn't answer _________.
The administrators have yet to be asked every question and in humbleness admit that they don't have the foresight to predict every question. As a result, this FAQ is, and will always be, incomplete, especially since the site is no longer actively maintained and the FAQ will no longer be updated.
